Career before being justice of the Supreme Court:

Born in 1954, in Arcos de Valdevez, he graduated by the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra in 1978.

He concluded the 2nd special course of Centro de Estudos Judici rios (school of magistrates ofPortugal) in 1982 and trained at the judicial Court of Vila Nova de Famalic o.

In 1984 he became first instance judge at the judicial Court of Amares, and then at the judicial district of Paredes.

He was elected member of the General Council of the Portuguese Judges Trade Union between 2000 and 2003.

He was seconded as auxiliary judge to the Court of Appeal of Oporto in 2002. In 2003 he was appointed as judge of the same Court of Appeal.

He was elected member of the High Council of the Judiciary between 2007 and 2010.

He took office as President of the Court of Appeal of Oporto on May 2015.
