At the invitation of Mr Petr Angyalossy, President of the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic, the Board of the Network of Presidents convened on 18–19 March 2026 in Brno.

The Board’s working meeting coincided with ‘The Night of Law’, an annual educational programme organised by the Czech courts to introduce the work of the judiciary. Members of the Board participated in an open debate held at the Czech Supreme Court, which focused on the length of court proceedings and the court’s communication with the public. The Presidents of the Supreme Courts were invited to share the best practices of their respective jurisdictions for speeding up court proceedings without compromising quality, and to discuss which communication tools can be used to build trust in the judiciary.

Mr Petr Angyalossy, President of the Czech Supreme Court noted: “It was an honour for us to host the Presidents of the Supreme courts of the European Union here in Brno, where the Czech judiciary has a long and strong tradition. This meeting was an opportunity not only to share experiences, but also to work together to find ways to strengthen public confidence in the courts and to increase the efficiency of judicial decision-making throughout Europe. I believe that our discussions will contribute to the further development of European judicial culture and to strengthening cooperation among individual member states”

The Board of the Network comprises the Presidents of Supreme Courts of Belgium, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden. Mr Donal O’Donnell, Chief Justice of Ireland, currently serves as the President of the Network.
