Presidents of Supreme Courts convene for their annual meeting today and tomorrow in The Hague

The Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union holds its Colloquium on 13 and 14 November 2025 in The Hague, the Netherlands. 

The event starts off on 13 November with a joint meeting between the Network and The Hague Judicial Club which brings together international courts and tribunals based in The Hague. The theme of the joint meeting is “The Contribution of International and National Courts and Tribunals to the Rule of Law” and the keynote speeches of the session are delivered by Mr Yuji Iwasawa, President of the International Court of Justice, Ms Tomoko Akane, President of the International Criminal Court, Mr Mattias Guyomar, President of the European Court of Human Rights and Lord Robert Reed, President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. The sessions is moderated by Ms Dineke de Groot, President of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands. 

On 14 November, the second day of the meeting, the members of the Network will have an exchange ideas on “National Courts and International Crime” and “Social Media: its Impact on Court Communication and Influence on Judicial Independence”. The session focusing on “National Courts and International Crime” is prepared and moderated by Mr Christophe Soulard, First President of the French Cour de cassation and the keynote speech is delivered by Mr Bertram Schmitt, former judge of the International Criminal Court. The working session on “Social Media: its Impact on Court Communication and Influence on Judicial Independence” is prepared and moderated by Ms Bettina Limperg, President of the Federal Court of Justice of Germany with a keynote intervention by Mr Mattias Guyomar, President of the European Court of Human Rights.
